The Whaley House is a mansion in San Diego, California that is haunted by the ghosts of numerous people and even animals.
One of the main ghosties in the Whaley House is "Yankee Jim" Robinson who was executed in 1852 for attempting to steal the only pilot boat in the harbour at the time. Robinson was sentenced to death and was hung on the property where the Whaley House was to be built.
According to one legend, the hanging scaffold was not properly constructed and Robinson dropped only 5 feet instead of the 15 feet he should of dropped. Therefore he did not die immediately of a broken neck and instead he slowly was strangled in an agonizing death that has been said to of last nearly 15 minutes.
In 1857, Thomas Whaley built his house for his bride, Anna Eloise, on the same property that Robinson has died. Family members long believed that Robinson haunted the mansion, the Whaley children heard heavy footsteps upstairs, windows opened and closed on their own and burglar alarms went off for no apparent reason. A rotating chandelier and a baby cradle that rocked on it's own were also seen on numerous occasions. Lillian Whaley lived in the house until the time of her death at age 89 in 1953.
After her death the house fell in disrepair and was scheduled to be torn down. A citizen's committee saved it and it is now a historic home and open to the public.
A number of psychics who have visited the home have claimed that it's home to a number of ghosts and spirits. Including men, women, children and animals.
Anna Eloise Whaley has been seen walking though out the rooms carrying a candle, checking the windows and locks.
