Come to my house and turn on the news or grab a paper and this man will be staring back at you. Very local to me and everywhere around here. "Robert William ("Willie") Pickton (b. October 24, 1949) of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia is a third-generation Canadian pig farmer who has been charged with the first degree murders of twenty-six women, many of them prostitutes and drug users from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Pickton is currently on trial for six of these murders. During the trial's first day, January 22, 2007, the Crown stated he confessed to forty-nine murders to an undercover police officer posing as a cell mate. The crown reported that Pickton told the officer that he wanted to kill another woman to make it an even 50, and that he was caught because he was "sloppy". The trial is expected to take a year or more. www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/predators/robert_pickton/robert_pickton_jump_page.html

Holly, what do you think of the witness that said that she walked in on Picton skinning one of the girls? Do you think that the jury took her seriously or wrote her off because of her prior addiction to drugs?

Holly, what do you think of the witness that said that she walked in on Picton skinning one of the girls? Do you think that the jury took her seriously or wrote her off because of her prior addiction to drugs? I'm having a hard time deciding on that one. Supposingly she was cracked out when she saw "the skinning" happening and she never went to the police about it and instead stayed somewhat friends with him. If I saw my buddy skinning someone I wouldn't be staying for tea that's for sure. It's hard to say what the judge and jury will decide on that. When she was on the witness stand, the news was all over her drug addictions so personally for me it would be hard to know what to believe. Also I always wonder how his brother, who lived on the property as well, never knew about it. He was either part of it or was covering for his brother. The next trail for the other 20 murder charges is expected to start Nov. 29 this year. We'll see what comes of it.

I was soooo happy to see that! They were speculating that he could apply for parole in 8-10 years so I am glad that they gave him the maximum sentence. He'll die in prison.

The family of the victims were quite upset because he wasn't found guilty of 1st degree murder but after watching them on the news last night, I think they very happy with the sentencing.

I don't understand why he wasn't convicted of first degree murder. Do they think that he brought them hoem to serve them cake and tea? He knew when he was picking them up that he would kill them.

There may not be a second trail for Robert Pickton's 20 other alleged victims. Something about the attorney general feels that the another long trail (the first trail lasted 11 months) would not be in the public interest. And the cost of everything so far and given that fact that Pickton already has a life sentence is too much and they should just roll it all into one and leave it be.
I'll see if I can find some more info........

I started the book last night about the trial. I'm only a chapter into it but so far so good. I think I may like it too because it describes my area so well. In the beginning the book talks about a skull that is found on the side of the road by a small bridge...I know where that is! It's just cool that way because it keeps me even more interested.
