Doppelgangers fall into 2 general categories: death omens and a type of possible out of body projection (bi-location) that is either done consciously or unconsciously. As a death omen, doppelgangers are typically seen in the distance just as the individual is about to die. They are an apparition of a living person that is the exact duplicate even the clothes and accessories being the same. The apparition may appear real or have a filmy ghostly look to it. Not all doppelgangers are a forewarning to death though. Some seem to be projections of conscious that somehow assume a visible form. Mystics are said the have the ability to project themselves at will. Others who project their doubles may not be aware of doing so. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelganger

I read a short story once that was pretty creepy about a soldier & a doppelganger. I'll see if I can dig it out.

Now I don't know if this story is true or not, but I had a friend who had a friend (typical way to start, isn't it?) who had a roomate who swears she saw her doppelganger. The friend found the roomate in her bed one day, all wrapped up, wide eyed, and looking terrified. When she asked her roomate what was wrong, her roomate told her to be quiet or it might come back. What the roomate described was a replica of herself but the doppelganger had red eyes and skin was translucent and it had some wicked grin on its face. She apparently woke up in the night and saw it there in the corner and naturally she didn't go back to sleep. She just lay there until her roomate found her. Now, I have no idea if this is true or not, but it gave me a jolt when I heard about it.

Either that or I'd try and convince myself that it was a dream. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Yeah, that made me a tad jumpy for a while when I turned out the light at night.

Yeah, that made me a tad jumpy for a while when I turned out the light at night. This is me. I can't figure out why when I tried to reply to this post after the my email notification it kept asking for my name, but then told me my name was registered to a member (duh!) and it wouldn't let me reply under this name.
