I don't know if the Maple Leaf recall has affected the States or not but I know Canada is being hit pretty hard. Angie, have you been buying any meat lately? I have no idea what's safe and not safe anymore so we're staying clear of any sandwich meat, hot dog or anything like that until this thing blows over. It's freakin' scary when simple things you eat could kill you.

Yes, we heard all about the recall when we were at the cottage. Luckily we get Ctv so we happened to catch the news on evening and we burned all the luncheon meat and questionable stuff. It is freaking scary. We have been super careful as well and only eating what we know isn't questionable meat. Although I did have a big Mac last night....that's sort of......questionable meat.....

I printed out a list yesterday of all the recalled meat. It was 5 pages long!! It's got everything from Maple Leaf to Schneider to no name crap. We're staying far away from anything unless it's from Lilydale for the next while. My parents work at Lilydale so I'm getting all this cheap meat that's safe!!

Not the pre-packaged kind that I know of. You can get it sliced at the deli's though. Just make sure it's actually Lilydale and they're not just sticking the name on it. I just worry because who knows what has has the bacteria. I heard this morning on the radio that they've added 50 more meat items to the infected list.

It doesn't sound like there is any in Canada though right? I love Dairy milk chocolate. What's with all the food recalls lately? Has it always been this way and not as highly reported in the news?

I don't think there is any in Canada....yet. I'm sure there has always been recalls but it does seem lately there is alot more. Maybe we're just more in tune to it because of the kids. I have no idea.

I bought sandwich meat for the first time in a long time the other day. My veggie days are over I think.
Did you hear about the chocolate pirate coins? Throw them out, they are next up on the list.

For the first time ever I have been checking to see 'where it is made'. I saw a bunch of those gold coins in the dollar store. I do hope that they pull them from the shelves.

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian. I just watched a documentary about Ingrid Newkirk, the co-founder of PETA. While some of their stunts are, IMO, ridiculous some of the other things they do are absolutely amazing!
The only thing is I believe in some of what they are doing but I like to eat meat. Mostly chicken and the odd burger but I do like meat. I think if I lived on my own I'd be a vegetarian.
Great documentary though!

As I am reading this I am munching on a sausage followed shortly by a piece of bacon. ;D I couldn't do it. I love steak and big greasy hamburgers and garlic sausage and pep/ham pizza too much. I'm a carnivore and always will be. My cousin has been a vegetarian since she's was 14. (She's only 17 now) but she got real sick last year because she wasn't taking the proper vitamins she needed to keep healthy. She now eats fish and eggs again because of that scare but it sounds like hard work. Is that docu bad? As much as I say I'm a meat eater, if I watch a video where they slaughter a pig, I won't eat pork for a month until I forget about it. ;D

My sister in law is a vegetarian also. She got really sick and has been in and out of doctor's offices and even had exploratory surgery. They told her that she was sick because she's wan't getting any protein.
I don't mind eating a chicken. I could even slaughter one IF I had to. Any other animal I couldn't kill.
I think eating meat is okay since we are not wasting it, we need/use it for nourishment. As long as the animals are treated humanly than I don't see what's wrong with it. I try to buy my eggs and chickens from a free range farm so that the chickens aren't stacked ceiling high in cages. They are alittle more expensive but it makes me feel better. I know the States are trying to change some of their laws for how pregnant sows are kept. I hope Canada follows suit. I will never eat veal.
