Do you do anything to help the environment? Recycle, etc?

The City that I live in is very proactive in going green. Winnipeg ....not so much. Here though they supply you with all the different bins including the outdoor ones. I just started to compost when we moved here.
.....but we are still bad as we buy water bottles. Our next goal is to get a water dispenser.

When I first met my other half he was super into recycling and all that. I wasn't into it at all and now I am more into it then he is. We have a couple of bins in the kitchen that we throw the plastics, newspapers and cardboard in and then put them out on the side of the road for pick-up. I'm totally hooked on that aspect of recycling because I've been doing it for so long.
We have a compost in the back. His Mom is huge on gardening so I throw all my crap into a bucket and make J dump it in the compost every other day. I did that compost project for school in June too so that kinda made me learn more about it.
I'm trying not to use as many cleaners either. That's a hard one for me. I'm not as worried about saving the lakes and ozone layer but more concerned about certain cancers being linked to some of that stuff. Whether that's true or not, I don't want to take that chance.

Oh NO! I love cleaners. Bleach being my favourite. Those 'green cleaners' are expensive - do you use those? We recycle all our stuff too. Plastics, bags, cerealbox cardboard, cans, papers. It really cuts down on the amount of actual garbage that we throw out. I don't know how it works out there but here we are given 40 tags for garbage and after that we have to pay for them. We usually get away with a bag a week now.

40 tags for garbage? What the heck? We have garbage day every Tuesday. We are allowed 2 big garbage cans full of garbage. Any more than that and we need a tag that we would have to buy. Recycling comes every Tuesday as well.
And like I said above, we don't need any tags for anything unless we are over the limit of 2 cans a week.
What a rip. Move to B.C

I'm trying to get into those canvas bags instead of plastic shopping bags. I picked up a few at Wal-Mart a while back and I love them. You can fill so much stuff in them and they are easy to carry. Much better than carrying 20 bags in the house. My problem though is remembering to bring them to the store with me. And I use them for everything else too. I have to make sure I keep a few plastic ones laying around though....my cat loves to play with them and be carried around in them. Yep, my cat is as strange as I am.

They are pretty good but the odd time I'll get plastic just because I like to have plastic bags around for extra messy diapers or clothes and such.
